The original triathlon established in 1983.
The lake hayes triathlon is new zealand’s oldest surviving triathlon, first held in 1983. This event is situated in and around the beautiful and iconic lake hayes near queenstown.
Held over the easter holiday break each year, the event has fostered the growth of summer triathlon over the years and its history is made more remarkable by the caliber of entrants that have gone on to become household names in the sport all over the world.
This triathlon has been a cornerstone of much larger events in the new zealand triathlon calendar, in the past doubling as the new zealand national championships, the oceania championships, and the world championships.
2XU Olympic Distance Triathalon
1500M SWIM OR 4KM KAYAK – in Lake Hayes. Course will be marked and patrolled
40KM ROAD BIKE: TBC
10KM RUN: off road run starting and finishing at the Lake Hayes showground’s along the walking track beside Lake Hayes incorporating one full anti clockwise lap of Lake Hayes - FINISHING AT THE SHOWGROUNDS
The Triathlon can be completed INDIVIDUALLY or in a TEAM of 2 or 3 persons
2XU Sprint Distance Triathalon
750M SWIM OR 4KM KAYAK – in Lake Hayes. Course will be marked and patrolled
20KM ROAD BIKE: one loop course heading anti-clockwise from Lake Hayes Showgrounds towards Arrowtown via McIntyres Hill, turn left at Millbrook corner and carry on around back road (Malaghans Road) towards Queenstown, turn left into Hunter’s Road, and then left into Speargrass Flat Road then right into Lake Hayes Road near the bottom of McIntyres Hill. Then return to Lake Hayes Showgrounds.
5KM RUN: off-road out and back run from the Showground’s along the walking track beside Lake Hayes towards Arrowtown - FINISHING AT THE SHOWGROUNDS
The Triathlon can be completed INDIVIDUALLY or in a TEAM of 2 or 3 persons

1.5KM RUN: off-road OUT AND BACK run starting at the Rowing Club heading out on the Lake Hayes track towards Queenstown

1.5KM RUN: off-road OUT AND BACK run starting at the Rowing Club heading out on the Lake Hayes track towards Queenstown
8KM MTN BIKE: Off Road Mountain Bike Anti Clockwise around Lake Hayes Hayes (Run Bike Transition opposite Rowing Club)
1.5KM RUN: off-road out and back run from the Rowing Club along the walking track beside Lake Hayes towards Arrowtown – FINISHING AT THE SHOWGROUNDS.
SOUTHERN SPORTS PODIATRY 5KM & 10KM TRAIL RUN
Starting at the Lake Hayes Showground’s, runners and walkers will complete one full lap of the oval before descending to the walking track besides Lake Hayes before completing one full anti clockwise lap of Lake Hayes finishing at the Showground’s
